NOLAN SMOCK

Clouds (2021) are the dreamy result of working exclusively from one location over the course of a personally tumultuous year and an attempt to find beauty in simplicity. Deceptively, though, clouds were the most technically difficult subject I’ve photographed so far. Prior series were an active resistance to making cloud pictures, using their light but letting them be the sole focus. In a way, they were, but it felt like a cliche to photograph them alone. Clouds (2021) is the permission, if you need it, to follow your gut, to continue.
