NOLAN SMOCK

Green St (2018) is a reflection on burnout. From 2012 until 2021, I lived, worked, loved, and lost on this mile-and-a-half road in north Durham, NC. Three houses, three jobs, two breakups, scraping by, no vacations, no travel, no insurance, repeating same days within a tiny radius. My surroundings became a nemesis, feelings that led to therapy and doctor’s orders to make this series after the idea was discussed. It’s a concious effort to find inspiration with what’s around, to try to look closer after a period of keeping a healthy distance. It’s also just about walking, looking, and shaking off all the dust from a decade spent away from the camera. After the wide-open spaces of NORTH DALLAS (2018), it moves in closer and is my most begruding work to date.
